Tchia can transform into almost any object thanks to her magical abilities. Once you get used to it, you’ll be able to navigate fairly quickly without having to use the map. If you are traveling on foot, you must use your local knowledge or use the compass. On the other hand, if you are on a raft, you have the advantage that the position of the boat can be viewed on the map at any time. Orientation is not easy at the beginning because your position is not always clearly marked on the map. You can also fast travel from a port too. For this you use a raft, which you can spawn at jetties. You can explore the archipelago consisting of two large and various smaller islands, coral reefs and shipwrecks as you wish. However, the developers emphasize that this culture has been fictionalized in the game. This is noticeable in the voice output, but also in the background music, the costumes of the characters and the culture that is conveyed in the game. The game world of Tchia was inspired by the archipelago of New Caledonia in the South Pacific. The side missions, on the other hand, contribute little to the plot. An extensive optional treasure hunt, in which you find various letters and notes, explains further background to the story. While the story seems quite bland at the beginning, it picks up speed especially in the second half and includes some surprising twists and turns. In the process, she discovers that the deity Meavora is behind the kidnappings, and over the following 7 to 12 hours (depending on playstyle), Tchia explores the entire archipelago to get closer to her goal. From there, Tre took care of Tchia, and she sets out to free her father and all the other children and adults who were captured. Tchia is the eponymous protagonist who grows up with her father on the small island of Uma, where a man named Tre visits regularly to deliver groceries. We were able to test this island adventure on the PS5 and PC. It’s been part of PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium subscriptions since day one ( as we reported in our Sub watch format). Tchia was released on Mafor PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Tchia is expected to release in Spring 2022, but a concrete release date is yet to be confirmed by the developer. We took a short vacation to an archipelago inspired by New Caledonia and tell you whether Tchia turned out to be a successful action-adventure. No doubt the winding down of Google plans for original games on Google Stadia have had a part in this, and we all know how keen Epic are to secure new exclusives for their PC game shop. Both of those launch platforms and storefronts have been ditched, with Tchia now heading to PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PC via the Epic Games Store instead. Tchia was originally announced for Google Stadia and PC via Steam in late 2020, but clearly some things have changed over the last nine months. With all its inspirations from New Caledonian traditions, music, customs and folklore, there’s sure to be an interesting mythology that I’m excited to learn about.” We’ve been hands on with Tchia a couple times, and in our most recent preview Nic said, “There’s a lot to love about Tchia, and I’m very interested to see where the game is going. Unlockable melodies will then go on to affect the open world. You can take a break from all of that though and play the Ukulele, which you will be able to play with picking, strumming, bends and more. There’s also clear signs of industrialisation and cities of the modern world encroaching and invading this island. A little hint of the game’s story is that you are tasked with finding Meavora and foiling some kind of evil. The Pacific island of New Caledonia provides the game with a variety of landscapes, the cultures, music, languages and traditions which Tchia blend into a fictional world.
